"... Tamalpais can be seen as the climax of this incomparable landscape at the continent's edge, this place where the Pacific breaches the thousand-mile mountain barrier along the western rim of America." ---Harold Gilliam
On 14 December, Gene, Betsy and I decided to circumnavigate Mt. Tamalpais. When we left Berkeley the fog was heavy, and we drove through fog all the way to Mill Valley. The fog was thick as we started the hike at an elevation of approximately 700 ft. I felt fairly certain that as we climbed up we would eventually break through the fog into glorious sunlight. At approximately 2,000 ft., we finally climbed above the fog, and it was magical as we looked down into the big, while puffy fog that encompassed most of the Bay Area.
